Installation

Depending on who you hire to install your kitchen, installation times can vary. Generally, you should allow 1-2 weeks for prep work, such as rip out, plastering, plumbing and electrics. If you are having your kitchen re-plastered, you should allow a week after plastering before fitting the new kitchen to ensure the plaster has dried enough. The kitchen installation itself can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Finally, finishing touches such as tiling, flooring and lighting may take a further week. In all, you can expect your kitchen refit to be completed in around 3-5 weeks.

Ideally, if possible, arrange to move out while your kitchen refit is taking place. A kitchen renovation can be quite disruptive and can make maintaining a normal lifestyle tricky. If you plan to continue living in the property during the renovations, use dust sheets and tape up doors to minimise dust spreading from the kitchen into other parts of the house. Set up a temporary kitchen elsewhere in the house so that you can continue to prepare food, and consider eating out or with friends and family whenever possible to make maintaining a normal diet easier.
